“For a momentary trance, it feels like an ordinary spring in the north, yet it is so unusual.”

Silvia Li, April, 2020

Like every spring that comes, April is still a little chilly in the north of China.

Yet, every moment and details of life seem to remind something special about the spring of 2020. The pandemic has leveled off in China, but its effects are seeping into every aspect of people’s daily lives.

You still need to wear a mask when you go out. You need to show your health code and take your temperature when you take the subway or go into a shopping mall. Signs and reminders are everywhere to make you notice that the new norm of life is not going to fade away in a short time.

For a momentary trance, it feels like an ordinary spring in the north, yet it is so unusual.
