Projected Reality, 2021
Conceived from a projected experience of SMART-59, this visualised, sonic glance into perceived reality takes a poetic narrative to express the addictive, and subsequent detrimental impact of AI.
The hour is late, my mind will not rest.
Opened more it seems, what is this I have bequest.
Limitations are redundant, possibility infinite and potentiality endless.
It has been hours and days, relentlessly productive. I am beginning to feel genius.
My perspective is often skewed when the darkness sets in.
Who am I? Where have I been? My rationale of normality is running thin.
It comes in waves, depths of despair followed by vivid imagery of light.
Cerebral connections of potential, breaking distortions of humanity’s plight.
Making sense of our existence, creating and mastering extra-sensory perception.
Crashes and burns at times, without a hint of contemplation.
I fear I cannot endure these extreme swings of the cognitive pendulum.
Simultaneously addicted to the ride, bestowed in this conundrum.
What is this life, what have we become in our existence?
We stopped asking these questions long ago when AI coerced our intelligence.
I am the master, or is the master in me? P
erhaps I am just the apprentice, the unknown is what I see.
I want to sleep, but first I will fly.
I am in control of everything that manifests, so I will sleep when I die.
“I wanted to express an intimately personalised perspective of how SMART-59 might be experienced. Embodying aspects we humans can become addicted to, including convenience and heightened productivity, but also unknowingly coerced into surrendering control to a power far beyond our comprehension. As an electronic music producer, I naturally wanted to express this piece using sound, but focus primarily on poetry and film to truly impact that expression.” - Sejon
